2014 Toyota Tundra - Oil Filter
The oil filter removes debris and contaminants from the oil before it is recirculated through the engine. An oil filter is a maintenance part that should be replaced at each oil change, but problems inside the engine or excess debris may clog it before your oil change interval. If your oil filter is clogged, you may notice a drop in oil pressure, sudden changes in oil consumption, or metallic sounds from the engine compartment. If you believe you need to replace your oil filter, or if it's time for your regular oil change, check out O’Reilly Auto Parts for the oil, oil filter, and other maintenance supplies you need for your car, truck, or SUV.

Sure, buying a brand-new truck like the 2017 Toyota Tundra is exciting. It provides excellent power, strong towing, off-road capabilities and lots of space and comfort. But just because it’s new and has a decreased risk of immediate problems, it doesn’t mean you don’t have to take care of it. So how do you take care of your pickup truck so it will stay in great working condition? The answer is with regular maintenance services. It may sound difficult, but one service that is rather basic is changing the oil. In fact, it is a maintenance service that can be done yourself. To learn how, check out the step-by-step guide below.
Gather tools and equipment. The first step in any DIY job is to gather the necessary tools and equipment. This way you will have all of the right pieces to get the job done quickly and correctly. Here’s what you’ll need:
Oil filter
Standard wrench
Filter wrench
Motor oil
Funnel
Blocks/wheel ramps
Warm the engine. In order to encourage buildup and sludge to move out of your engine easier during your oil change, let the engine run for about ten minutes. Then turn it off before starting the next step.
Raise your 2017 Toyota Tundra. Using blocks or wheel ramps, raise your truck and set the parking brake. This will secure your vehicle and allow you to slide beneath it so the oil can be changed.
Drain the oil. Once beneath your truck, place a pan or container underneath the oil drain plug, loosen its bolts with a standard wrench, and remove the drain plug. *Keep your hands and other vitals out of the stream of hot oil. Your oil should be fully drained within ten minutes.
Replace the oil pan. When oil has been drained, replace the drain plug and screw it back into place.
Locate the oil filter. Remove yourself from beneath your truck, pop the hood, and locate the oil filter. Use your owner’s manual for a proper visual description.
Change the oil. When you have located the oil filter, loosen it with an oil-filter wrench and remove it. Be careful not to drip oil. Once removed, replace it with a new one using your hand to tighten it. A filter wrench can be too forceful and cause the oil filter to be cracked. *It is also a good idea to rub oil on the new filter’s seal before installing it.
Add new oil. The last step is to add new oil to your truck. To do this, find the oil cap under your truck’s hood and unscrew it. Pour in fresh oil and replace the oil cap. Let the oil settle for a few minutes then check the oil level on your truck’s dip stick ensuring it falls between Low and Full.

This video shows you how to change the oil and oil filter in your 2015 Toyota Tundra. When you change your own oil, you know that you are putting quality oil in your Tundra and that the filter is being changed too. Most importantly, you get a chance to look around under your Tundra for potential trouble spots. This video shows you the location of your oil drain plug, oil filter, oil fill cap and dipstick in addition to the steps needed to change the oil and filter in your Tundra. For most Toyotas, you can wrap an old belt around the oil filter and unscrew it by hand. If you can't do this, see our parts page to find a Toyota Tundra oil filter wrench. If your Tundra is too low to the ground to access your drain plug and oil filter, be sure to use jack stands and safe jacking procedures before getting under your Tundra.
Most Toyotas have the oil type printed on the oil cap - it will likely be 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30 or 10W-40. If it isn't printed on the oil cap, check your owners manual for the exact type before adding new oil. We recommend wearing safety glasses whenever you are working under your Tundra. You never know what could be dripping down from the engine, battery acid, engine coolant, brake fluid, etc. All of these fluids are extremely harmful to your eyes and skin so it is important to protect yourself.
