Ping G10 3 Wood Review

FirefoxScreenSnapzIf you read this column regularly you know that I&#;ve fallen in love with my Ping G10 hybrids. I started out with a 21 degree last year and had such success that I added the 18 and 24 degree versions at the beginning of the season (see Ping G10 Hybrid Does It All). It didn&#;t take long before I began hankering after the G10 3 wood to round out the bag.

At various times in the past I&#;ve used both 13 and 15 degree 3 woods depending on the course I was playing and conditions. I have a couple versions of each, but never one that I was completely in love with. When I found out that Ping&#;s G10 3 wood comes in a 14 degree version I knew I had to have it.

Like Goldilocks, I found the 13 degree too low, the 15 degree too high, but the 14 degree was just right! It probably helps that I&#;ve been using the Ping hybrids for awhile, because the 3 wood is much the same club, albeit a bit different head shape and slightly longer shaft. Some 3 woods are too much like a hybrid and some too much like a driver. The Ping G10 is a comfortable compromise between these extremes. The head has more length than the hybrids, but is small enough that it encourages you to use it from the fairway.

At address it feels and sets up like its sister hybrids. I don&#;t know what Ping has done differently than other manufacturers, but I find all of the G10 family tremendously easy to swing. I&#;m guessing the shafts may be slightly shorter, but whatever it is it sure works.

All my G10&#;s have the standard copper colored Ping stiff shaft. The trajectory of the 3 wood is perfect for me, a bit penetrating and neither too high nor too low. By changing the angle of the clubface, ball position and angle of attack, I can alter the trajectory significantly. This is especially important if you play in windy conditions.

For my ears, all the G10 family has a nice sound on impact. This is a highly personal matter, but in this age of clubs making all types of fantastic sounds, the Ping has a nice solid, dare I say, &#;ping&#; to it. Actually &#;clink&#; may be closer, but that&#;s probably not a great choice for a brand name.

The sole of the G10 3 wood has enough keel to it that it handles the first cut of rough well. Even there, if there&#;s much grass behind the ball I&#;ll opt for my 18 degree hybrid. I can afford the sacrifice in yardage to guarantee that I make good contact.

I&#;ve always thought that working the ball was mostly about the golfer and only a little about the club. After all, there are no switches to throw to change anything on your equipment. Either you know how to make a draw or fade swing or you don&#;t. Having said that, the G10 will move both ways, enough so to make it useful in dealing with a cross wind or negotiating a dogleg. It has come in handy a number of times when a driver just brought in too much risk for the reward.

Now I feel I have 4 go to clubs in my bag, from my 24 degree Ping G10 hybrid down to the 14 degree 3 wood. Confidence is a good thing on a golf course and all these clubs exude it. My only question now is do I dare try a G10 driver?

Strengths – Great looking, forgiving and immense acoustics Weaknesses – shaft easily marks The latest fairway wood from Ping, the G10, has so far been a pleasure to hit. The club is classic in design with traditional looks, which has the effect of boosting confidence upon impact. The design allows the centre of gravity to be pushed lower towards the base, which promotes a greater launch angle; so the ball should fly further and on a more controllable flight path. The shallow but wide face (increasing the useful area) has allowed my off centre hits to not receive the harsh punishment which most 3 woods would incur. Upon impact the crisp sound is reassuring, so the acoustics on the whole are excellent. The club offers great versatility and distance, but my slight concern has been the easily marked shaft. This is due to the vivid colour schemes which Ping offer. Overall I have been truly impressed by this club, and cannot envisage a change in the near future!

bought a strong 3 wood Ping G10 after being blown away with the Ping G10 driver i had recently purchased, have found this a little harder (surprisingly) to hit than the driver, maybe it is the fact the had is 1/2 the size. the shots that i have caught correctly have gone along way and straight too, i will master it just a matter of time.

Absolutely love hitting with this club. Either off the tee or the fairway. very easy to hit, nearly as far as my driver. Cannot find any fault!

I agree with everyone that it is eay to hit and with the V2 shaft in it a club that does go far but golf being a personal sport i find that when striking the ball the ball feels very heavy off the face and that make the club feel clumsy. but great shaft and good design.

Easy to hit - long, off the deck and fairway. Finally good looks and easy to align. What moore could you ask for.

I bought this club a few months ago now in a deg stiff and what a club. The compact head looks great behind the ball on the fairway or tee and fills you with confidence. As for the distance, that is truely amazing adding a good 20yards.

I've got this in a stiff and love it. The smaller head designmeans it inspires so much more confidence than the g5 3 wood (which I had before this). I'm get yards extra distance too. Of all the G10 range this club has made the best leap forwards over the G5.

added 20 yards on my r7 3 wood sounds like a firecracker when u strike i,ve got the loft stiff shaft every1 asked what i was using on the range it sounded and flew that well

I bought the loft 5 wood with Prolaunch FW stiff shaft. This is a great club to look at and the longer heel-to-toe length gives you confidence at address. Distance is nearing my G2 3 wood! The sound is beautifully crisp and the club is very forgiving. I traded in my G5 hybrid (16 deg.) and couldn't be more pleased. If you prefer more traditional fairway woods and don't get on with hybrids try one of these. Great choice of shafts as usual from Ping.

THIS NEW FORGIVING 3-WOOD IS PERFECT... FOR EVERYONE!?

Well then, take off your panties, today I'll try all your holes, - he smiled. I like to go shopping alone, of course, a new. Blouse or the latest model of Nikе sneakers is great, but something pleases me much more. School medical examinations gave me mixed feelings of shame and excitement, and the older I got, the less shame remained.

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it very often, so I myself took a step towards my insanity.
