Hartford City man arrested after police find more than 700 pictures of child porn

HARTFORD CITY, Ind. (WANE) — A Hartford City man is behind bars after police say the man uploaded hundreds of pictures of child pornography.

The Jay County Sheriff’s Department received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children after a social media platform called MeWe.com reported 9 questionable images uploaded to its server. According to police, those pictures depicted child pornography.

Police were able to track the IP address to a home in the 700 block of South Walnut Street in Hartford City and obtained a search warrant for both the home and the website.

During the search of the website, police found an additional 707 images of either sexually suggestive or full child pornography of prepubescent females ages 5 to 11, police said.

Then, on Wednesday, the Jay County Sheriff’s Department along with Hartford City Police, Indiana State Police, and the FBI conducted a search warrant of the house and took George Thomas into custody.

Thomas was arrested on charges of child solicitation and distribution of child pornography. He is being held in the Blackford County Jail.

While the investigation is still underway, police do not believe Thomas created the images or that he knew the victims. At this time police say it’s more likely that he collected the images and uploaded them.

“It definitely happens everywhere,” Sgt. Derek Bogenschutz said. “It’s definitely not the first and it definitely won’t be the last locally or in Indiana.”

Sgt. Bogenschutz said the department will be working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to try to identity victims.

The first European settler arrived in what would later become the Town of Hartford in 1843, built a second building in the town, and operated it as an inn.  The town lies about half-way between Milwaukee and Fond du Lac.  As German settlers arrived and explored the area, they came across a village of Potowatomi Indians that had made their homes around the lake they called Nokum (“Heart Lake”), due to its shape.  As more families arrived, the town was incorporated in 1846 as the Town of Wayne, which quickly changed to Benton, Wright and on April 7, 1847, the founders settled on the name of Hartford!

With the incorporation of our town, as well as the transient population that used the Town of Hartford as a stop-over, crime began to increase.  The new town board felt it imperative to have law enforcement.  On the founding day of the Town of Hartford, the first Constable, Almon Washburn was elected to office, and was paid $1.00 per day ($30.77 in 2021).  Constable Washburn appointed his challengers- Isaac Allen and H.R. Dodge- as Deputy Constables, and paid them for their work from his from his $1.00 earnings.

Today, the Town of Hartford is a strong mix of suburban life and a rural farming community with a population of around 3,800 residents, which the Town of Hartford Police Department has been proudly serving since April of 1847.

Village of Hartford is the “community of choice” for many residents and businesses. People are drawn to the Village because of our unique blend of urban and residential areas. The Village is a place where citizens freely enjoy picnics in the parks, stroll on trails and well maintained streets, and live in serene neighborhoods with peace of mind.

The Police Department is one of the departments in the Village helping to ensure safety in our community. The department prides itself on ensuring a safe community through caring, commitment and community partnerships. Our department is not your traditional police department. Officers proactively interact with the community to resolve issues and develop long term relationships with citizens in neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. Village officers look for opportunities to increase awareness by informing citizens when there appears to be a condition that could potentially be an opportunity for a crime.

Police officers have been seen throughout the Village visiting residents to inform them of an open garage door, or contacting individuals in parking lots that have left valuable items unattended in their vehicles. Village officers are always available to spend time with residents at neighborhood functions, such as Homeowner Association meetings, or at their homes. Officers frequently collaborate with businesses and work with youth in and outside the schools. Our department places a high priority on the safety of its citizens, preventing crime before it happens and making a difference in improving the quality of life in the Village.

He rustled so seductively and smelled very nice. It was a mixture of nylon scent and feminine scent that I breathed deeply and literally felt like these two were putting it on. It was so alluring and sexy that I immediately wanted to put it on myself.
