My dearest Historia,

My dearest Historia, Reiner is standing to my side. He is catching glimpses as I write this letter of my love for you. What a creep, he is never getting a girlfriend. But he did promise me that he would deliver this letter to you. He says he wants to repay me for saving them that day. I’m sorry for what happened then. I never imagined I would choose them over you. I’ll be dead not long after these words. But I don’t regret anything. I didn’t have a name. I didn’t know who my parents were, or where they were from. My earliest memory is of being one beggar among many. But one day, a man showed up and gave me a name. Ever since then, people called me Ymir. You may not think it’s much of an unusual name, but all I had to do was take it, and then I was given a fine bed and fed meals. That wasn’t all. Those adults who, until then, acted like I was invisible all got on their knees and revered me. As for the man who named me, he began ti dress more and more extravagantly, and as he did, he grew happier. I felt good, too. All I had to do to make everyone delighted and happy was play the role that I had been given. That’s what I believed. And that’s why I kept playing the part of Ymir. People had started to call me devil before I knew it; but I still kept playing the part of Ymir. The man who had given me a name claimed that I had “tricked him.” Still, I kept playing the part of Ymir. I thought if that’s what would save them, it would be fine. But… There are some people in this world who have rocks thrown at them for nothing more than existing. As their symbol, I was stoned from head to toe. It seems that in this world, it doesn’t mean anything in particular that a simple chunk of flesh can scream and flail. No. It doesn’t mean a thing. That’s why I think the world is so incredible. I opened my eyes again, and spread before me was freedom. From there, I began to walk and I lived the way I wanted. I have no regrets. Or so I’d like to say. But to be honest, I do have one. You and I still aren’t married. –Ymir

We Have Some Thoughts About Harry Styles’s Sunglasses

To say Harry Styles has grown into his flair for fashion is an understatement. With his early One Direction blazers and Converse long ago retired, the now year-old has become something of an icon of modern masculinity – a role he’s assumed with admirable nonchalance.

One way to chart Harry’s fashion evolution is through his changing taste in sunglasses. A look back through the annals reveals a boy bander in understated frames who has graduated to trend-setting rainbow lenses as an international solo artist and fully-fledged Gucci muse.

Harry has relied on sunglasses to see him through airport ambushes, early morning radio interviews, and crucially, to hold those famous locks off his face in rehearsals. It was during his Saint Laurent era, around , that Harry began to embrace a rock-star approach with bold, retro styles. He had the brand’s Kurt Cobain-inspired California shades in both black and white.

His most notable recent pair took things up another notch. There’s no missing the turquoise Gucci frames Harry wears in the sunshine and nostalgia-soaked video for his track “Watermelon Sugar”, and the Elton John-worthy frames aren’t only for when he’s in pop star mode – he wears them IRL, too.

Here, Miss Vogue looks back at Harry Styles’s life in sunglasses.

What kind of heart-shaped sunglasses are for you?

HomeSunglasses | Heart-shaped sunglasses

Heart-shaped sunglasses are in a league of their own when it comes to cute accessories. Their cultural popularity is undeniable: You can spot them everywhere from Stanley Kubrick&#x;s film Lolita to glossy magazine shots of pop icons like Lana Del Rey and Harry Styles. This eyewear style is a mainstay for any sunglasses aficionado.

Industry publication 20/20 Vision Magazine lists heart-shaped frames as one of their top Fabulous Finds, as they are glamorous, luxurious and for people that were born to stand out.

Indeed, heart-shaped frames can make a statement, but they can also be tricky to pull off without looking kitschy or cheap. Some may avoid these frames for fear of looking too young or twee, but wise shoppers know that they can be a chic accessory when worn well.

Designer brands like Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) and Betsey Johnson each have their own high-fashion take on this fun staple. But if runway wear is not in your budget, Forever 21, Quay, Target and Wildfox all sell affordable pairs of heart-shaped sunglasses.

What are heart-shaped sunglasses?

Heart-shaped sunglasses are sunglasses with heart-shaped frames &#x; in a sense, marrying traditional round frames with a feminine cat-eye style. They are usually lightweight rather than bulky, making them easy to wear on any occasion.

While the frames themselves are shaped like hearts, narrowing and forming a point beneath one&#x;s eye, they can also be shades with heart motifs.

Heart-shaped frames work on many face shapes, though naturally, they&#x;re especially perfect for heart-shaped faces. There are many different styles of heart-shaped sunglasses, from thin-line metal to oversized plastic frames, either of which can provide a funky, artsy look.

They also come in a variety of colors, from black to pink to rose-gold (and every shade imaginable) frames, and lenses that range from red to pink, yellow and blue. Pinterest features dozens of inspiring heart-shaped eyewear looks and clipart.

Why wear heart-shaped sunglasses?

Heart-shaped shades never go out of style. Over the years, they have remained a hallmark of sunglasses culture, lending a retro, s finish to any outfit. They&#x;re the ideal complement to vintage clothing or funky attire.

They might not be the eyewear you sport to the office or on a business Zoom call, but sometimes they&#x;re exactly what you need to make any occasion a little special. They can be a delight to wear out to events and are a perfect addition to any youthful look.

Red heart-shaped sunnies with black lenses are the most classic look, though black frames and lenses are a popular look as well.

Where to wear heart-shaped sunglasses

Wear these shades to the beach, a concert or party, as they&#x;re perfect for cocktail hours and laid-back cultural events. Here are a few ideas for where you can wear your versatile heart-shaped sunglasses, from the beach to Valentine&#x;s Day.

Cultural events

When you attend a special event, you should flaunt a special set of eyewear to match. Heart-shaped shades are bound to make you the life of the party.

Music festivals: Heart-shaped eyewear is a perfect addition to an outfit while attending outdoor music festivals like Coachella or Burning Man, as they always make band T-shirts and jean jackets pop. They can also be a fun addition to any concert garb, be it an outdoor bash or an intimate indie show at a café.

Art galleries: If anyone knows creative eyewear, it&#x;s the art world. At contemporary art fairs and galleries across the world, participants of the creative class are known to wear bright and bold eyewear to show off their originality and creativity. This is truly where heart-shaped frames can shine. Artists, curators and gallerists are known for their funky eyewear, so you will be in good company.

Fashion events: Heart-shaped sun-shades can be worn at New York Fashion Week events, including pop-up runways, designer boutique parties and VIP gatherings. These events are where fashion icons strut their stuff. Often, they predict the hottest trends before everyone else. There&#x;s no better way to show the fashionistas that you&#x;re on top of the latest, or even retro, looks than rocking some heart-shaped shades.

Parties: Heart-shaped eyewear might be the flirtiest accessory on the market. While wearing your regular set of shades on the nightclub dancefloor could veer toward the cliché, there&#x;s no denying that a cute pair of pink heart-shaped shades can give you a fun, flirty look.

Special occasions

These eye-grabbing frames are great for special occasions &#x; you are sure to stand out in all your holiday photos.

Valentine&#x;s Day: Heart-shaped sunnies send a clear signal that romance is in the air. This Valentine&#x;s Day (February 14) is the perfect day to pair your new rhinestone heart sunglasses with your favorite fashionable outfit. Wear it for your loved one or even just for yourself.

Date night: Wearing a pair of heart-shaped frames out on a date is a great way to show your affection for that special someone. This is an accessory that can be a little sign of affection or simply enhance a fun outfit.

In photos: Of course, these frames are camera-friendly. Wear them for a memorable moment in an old-school photo booth with friends. They&#x;re also ideal for an Instagram selfie with a little heart-eyes emoji. It is truly the type of eyewear that begs the wearer to strike a pose.

Celebrations: If you&#x;re attending a celebration among friends and family, a pair of heart-shaped shades could be a fun way to add some flavor to the party.

Heart-shaped sunglasses in pop culture

Heart-shaped eyewear has dominated pop culture for decades, from Hollywood films to music videos to celebrities on the red carpet. From its birth in the s, this style of sunglasses has grown into a symbol of style and superstardom.

Lana Del Rey: The famed pop singer has crooned about heart-shaped sunglasses in her hit song Diet Mountain Dew. She also sings about them in tracks, like Heart-shaped Chevrolet and Every Man Gets His Wish. She sports heart-shaped glasses in many photoshoots, adding to the popularity of the style.

Harry Styles: This mega star proves, heart-shaped shades aren&#x;t just for women. Men love and can totally pull them off, too. British pop sensation Harry Styles rocks a pair of rimless cherry red heart-shaped frames in his popular music video for Watermelon Sugar.

Marilyn Manson: Manson released a song in called Heart-Shaped Glasses starring his then-girlfriend Rachel Wood wearing red heart-shaped sunglasses. These were quite likely an homage to the ones worn by Hollywood actress Sue Lyon in Kubrick&#x;s film, Lolita.

Paris Hilton: Over the past decade, the hotel heiress has sported dozens of pairs of heart-shaped eyewear. Hilton, known for her love of oversized eyewear, has worn pink, mirrored and heart-shaped sunglasses with transparent, colored frames. She has even inspired her own line of heart-shaped shades.

Lady Gaga: The pop star and style icon has been wearing heart-shaped sunglasses for years. She often pairs pink and black heart-shaped shades with striking outfits like fur coats, yellow dresses and golden jackets. For a more youthful look, she wears them with a high ponytail, too.

Madonna: The notorious pop superstar wore a pair of white heart-shaped Moschino sunglasses on her Sticky and Sweet tour in She wore them on stage with a rainbow outfit and a pair of fishnets.

Bad Bunny: The Latin pop singer is an eyewear enthusiast. He famously sported black heart-shaped sunglasses in a photoshoot this past spring, which landed him in Vogueand on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Taylor Swift: The acclaimed Tennessee singer wears a pair of red heart-shaped sunnies in the music video for her song 22, which is (coincidentally) off her album called Red.

Katy Perry: The pop singer wore a pair of red heart-shaped shades in her music video for This How We Do in , as she paired up the look with a swimsuit and chunky, retro platform heels.

A brief history of heart-shaped sunglasses

This glamorous style of eyewear all began in the s when cat-eye glasses were a popular trend. Heart-shaped sunglasses were sold, but they didn't really pick up until Lolita hit theatres in , which created some buzz around the (at the time) unique frame shape. Then, throughout the rest of the s, they were widely mass-produced by a number of sunglasses brands.

Celebrities started wearing them, too, including The Beatles&#x; guitarist George Harrison, who wore them in the s, as did English singer Marianne Faithful. They became a distinguishing feature of the hippie Flower Power style of the period.

As fashion designers caught on, they started creating their own renditions, which landed them in the pages of Vogue magazine throughout the s and s. While they&#x;re sold by many fashion retailers today, heart-shaped sunglasses have made their way onto the catwalk, for example at a Moschino runway show in and a Jeremy Scott x Linda Farrow collection released in

Now, it feels like everyone owns a pair of heart-shaped shades. It isn&#x;t just fashion designers who have caught on, but many eyewear retailers and designers, each with their own distinct take on this wardrobe staple.

Are heart-shaped sunglasses trendy?

In short, yes. Heart-shaped glasses are trendy, but you want to make sure you don&#x;t look cheap while wearing them. They are sold in many places today, but the latest look for heart-shaped eyewear is pink lenses housed in metal frames. This is a more fashion-forward way to wear heart-shaped sunglasses; it&#x;s subtler and classier than a pair of plastic frames.

Benefits of heart-shaped sunglasses

There are plenty of reasons to wear heart-shaped sunglasses. They&#x;re an easy way to jazz up a drab outfit. They&#x;re a quick style solution. They offer a playful and youthful feel to any look. And, they&#x;re fun and festive &#x; perfect for parties.

Heart-shaped sunglasses are affordable, as there is a range of brands that carry them. They&#x;ll always allow you to stand out in a crowd. The eye-catching glamour they add to a look might even get you photographed at a public event. Heart-shaped eyewear shows the world that you have a bold, fun side to your personality.

Are heart-shaped frames for you?

They are quirky, to be sure, and they may not be for everyone.

This fun eyewear style can certainly add an adventurous splash to your look, but they also may not be the kind of sunglasses you want to wear daily &#x; so don&#x;t toss out your Wayfarers just yet. You might not wear them at work, but they are a great accessory for a weekend on the go.

What's Sweeter? The Watermelon or Harry Styles's Rainbow Assortment of Sunglasses?

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you'll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

Harry Styles has blessed us with a music video for "Watermelon Sugar," and let's just say the fashion is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. As we played the video on a loop to take in all of his eye-catching looks (um, hello, that Bode shirt!), we couldn't help but notice the colorful sunglasses he accessorized his outfits with. While he danced around the beach sensually eating watermelon slices and strawberries, Harry showed off his magical summer style with an array of sunglasses ranging from a brown, round Gucci pair to a red heart-shaped pair that instantly took us back to our childhoods.

If we're counting — which we obviously are — Harry wore not one pair of vintage-inspired sunglasses but three different styles in the music video. Of course, the singer had to rep his favorite label, Gucci, as he always does. He also wore a pair of groovy light-blue shades in a whimsical wavy frame. How '70s! Keep reading to get a close-up of all of the sunglasses Harry wears in his latest music video, then shop similar styles if you're looking to replicate his looks and up your accessory game.

10 Harry Styles-inspired sunglasses for summer

Harry Styles is a man of the people — and a man who can carry off any pair of sunglasses. Specialising in Gucci and vintage glasses, it takes a certain level of confidence to mix and match shapes and styles the way he does, but Harry loves fashion and isn&#;t afraid to take a risk.

1. Red heart-shaped sunglasses

harry styles watermelon sugar music video gif2

Starting with &#;Watermelon Sugar.&#; If you aren&#;t streaming already, help the single climb the charts by pausing the video and watching it on repeat it to admire Harry in a new pair of sunglasses. (Three pairs of sunglasses means at least three replays, right?)

Harry Lambert treated us to a close-up of the red love heart sunglasses on his Twitter. They are fun, whimsical, and will photograph really well throughout the year, giving you the perfect Harry attitude for summer.

2. Blue plastic circular sunglasses

harry styles watermelon sugar music video gif

Gucci make a typical appearance in the &#;Watermelon Sugar&#; music video with some bold, blue circular sunglasses that would do well with an unplucked eyebrow. Paired with the yellow Bode flower shirt (anyone hoping for some Bode tour looks? I am!), these immediately scream authority. One look in these and people will be falling over themselves to help you out with whatever you need. Can you spot them in the Rolling Stone photo below?

3. Classic tortoiseshell sunglasses

If you are looking for something likely to be in your price range, we only have to look at Harry&#;s HSHQ photo from Hong Kong for inspiration (which just happened to be my lock screen for around a year). QUAY confirmed that Harry is wearing their Walk On style. These tortoiseshell shades can be worn to any family gathering and do well with plain T-shirts if that is more your style. Purchase the exact pair here.

4. Big, sparkly, square sunglasses

— anna leszkiewicz (@annaleszkie) October 27,

How could we forget &#;s iconic Halloween outfit? Harry was bedazzled to perfection in a custom replica of Elton John&#;s crystal jumpsuit. We aren&#;t saying that the sunglasses make this outfit when clearly the jumpsuit and the hat would win any Halloween costume, and be worthy of any theme at The Met Gala, but there is something about these pink Gucci glasses that means we can&#;t look away.

5. Barbie pink plastic sunglasses

harry styles pink sunglasses kissy

If the crystals are one step too far for you, these large pink frames are maybe one step more subtle. Still Gucci, still going to be complimented at every opportunity, these are perfect for pretending you are on that jetsetting vacation when we all know we&#;ll be staying home this year.

6. Rectangular statement sunglasses

harry styles gucci cruise show backstage

Wrapping up his third pair of pink sunglasses with a look that deserves all the attention and has been too quickly forgotten is the gold and pink rectangular oversized Guccis. Worn at the Gucci Cruise show in , where he performed with Stevie Nicks and walked around exuding beauty and talent, these seem somewhat more practical than the other pink options and still give those vintage vibes.

7. Alien eyes sunglasses

Harry Styles in a vintage Journey t-shirt and white sunglasses

Harry&#;s had this pair around for a few years and demonstrated that they work well with both long and short hair. Perfect for hiding your resting bitch face in the fourth zoom call of the day, a week&#;s worth of smudged mascara, or very sleep deprived eyes these sunglasses are actually very practical. Retro enough to pair with a denim jacket and statement enough for a Facetime photoshoot, the versitility of these sunnies makes them a great buy.

Pick up a pair in the sale here and they&#;ll outlast any fashion fads.

8. Opulent black sunglasses

If these classic black sunglasses are good enough for Harry and Gucci&#;s Creative Director Alessandro, they are good enough for you. These dark lenses will make you seem mysterious and professional, and they look very very expensive. Take them shopping, take them to the beach, take them on your next cross-Atlantic flight and everyone will know you are a person with purpose, and that purpose is to look and feel your best.

9. Oversized grandad-style sunglasses

Harry in brown grandad glasses and a yellow tshirt

This pair was spotted in a photo in February&#;s Rolling Stone of Harry rehearsing before Fine Line Live. Get your own pair of oversized Grandad glasses here and you can wear them well over the next few decades. These haven&#;t been spotted on Harry often so either they are pretty new or you can be one of the fans who really know the ins and out of his extensive sunglasses collection and can happily replicate that in your own life.

Round John Lennon-style sunglasses

Harry Styles breaking open a watermelon

Finishing up with yet another pair from the Watermelon Sugar music video! These very round John Lennon style sunglasses are a bold choice. It&#;s not easy to find some with the same amber lenses but it&#;ll be easier to eat your watermelon on the beach in this black lensed pair. Not sure that we&#;ll see Harry in these during the grocery run but if you are aiming to recreate the Watermelon Sugar music video anytime soon these are an absolute must!

It&#;s very important to protect your eyes! We are always reminded to put on suncream but most people don&#;t realise that their eyes can also get sunburnt from too much UV light. As someone who has had sunburnt eyes too many times, and who also now wears gold glitter glasses everyday, I didn&#;t realise how much fun wearing glasses could be until I found the right pair. Looking back through Harry&#;s best sunglasses choices over the years, I hope you&#;ve found something that&#;ll not only make you feel good, but will help you look after your eyes too. So that you can watch more Harry Styles videos, obviously. Let us know if you want a part two to this article as there are still so many underrated looks out there that absolutely need more of attention!
