Jacqueline says:
Circle of Life is made from lots of scraps and 2 base fabrics: The dark blue saphire from the Hoffman 1895 series and a dark blue bali fabric with a small silver star. I was asked by Patchwork Promotions (the European distributor of Hoffman fabrics) whether I had a quilt available for a trade fair in Cologne (Germany) but as all my quilts hung at another show, there was nothing available and she could not use one of my quilts. But, as I am fond of challenges, I wanted to make an eye-catcher for the Hoffman booth. It took me about 5 weeks to finish this quilt. This was including the time that I needed to quilt by hand. But I made it, before the trade fair was due.

A lot of people ask me: how do you start with a quilt like this? I am very sorry to say, but I have no formula for this. I sit down and try to find as much different colours as possible. But I have to admit: I am always looking for bright and sparkling colours which flow nicely into each other: yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, cobalt blue, dark green and after light green I end up with yellow again. When you take a close look at the picture, you see that the colourdeviations are the shades of these colours. Though every quilt is different and every quilt is unique, just because everbody has their own idea of what is possible and what not. And that is something that makes the assembling of this quilt so special.

The making of this quilt is not extremely difficult. The search for that specific piece of fabric to make a beautiful transition, that is the challenge!

How many fabrics did I use in this quilt? I realy don’t know. Some pieces of fabric are just so colourful and so different, that you can find it back on 20 places in the quilt, while other pieces are used only once in the border, only because of the prominent colour or print. For quilts like this I prefer to use printed bali fabrics, just because of their variety and different colours.

Then, three years later, the information was confirmed. I just remembered myself, I listen, and my jaw slowly drops in the most literal sense. Anyway.
