Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City - How to Find the Ring of Steel Protection +3

Dark Souls 3 carried over the concept of +1 and +2 rings from Dark Souls 2. You can't find those enhanced rings until your second and third playthrough, respectively, but +3 rings can be found in any New Game playthrough—if you know where to look. Follow our guide to locating the Ring of Steel Protection +3 in The Ringed City DLC expansion.

Where to Find the Ring of Steel Protection +3

Like its counterparts, the Ring of Steel Protection +3 boosts your resistance to physical damage. You'll be happy to know it's sitting out in the open near the beginning of the Dreg Heap, ripe for the taking. Be careful, though. The path to the ring is treacherous.

Start out at the Dreg Heap, the first bonfire you light in The Ringed City DLC. Proceed forward and drop off two ledges until you see a ramp on your left. Follow the ring across the courtyard, ignoring the murkmen that bubble up from the ground around you. Head toward the spellcaster, then sprint for the nearby broken stone bridge where a body lies. The stone will give way, and you'll plummet through the glass ceiling of a cathedral.

Take a moment to get your bearings. Make your way toward a gap in the wall on your left. Murkmen spawn as you go, including one right in the center of the hole; veer around him so he doesn't grab your legs and wrestle you to the ground. Outside, turn right, then right again. You'll see a specter pointing down, indicating that you should drop. Do so quickly: there's an angel nearby who will be happy to spike laggards with a hail of golden projectiles.

Sprint forward and take cover behind the broken bell until the barrage ceases. The angel should forget about you after a few seconds. Take a few steps forward than hang a left to hug the fall building. It's connected to a wooden bridge. The bridge curves around to below where the angel hovers.

Wait for the angel to cease its blitzkrieg, then follow the bridge to a body at the end. Loot the corpse to claim your Ring of Steel Protection +3. Immediately turn around and run for cover; the angel unleashes spells at a fast enough clip that you'll almost certainly die unless you can get out of its line of sight.

Dark Souls 3: Every Ring And Where To Find Them

By Ryan Epps

ShareTweetEmail

The stats and location of every ring in Dark Souls 3.

There are a total of 116 rings found throughout the entirety of Dark Souls 3, spanning from the base experience, then heading on into the New Game Plus territories and additive DLC expansions.

The player is allowed to wear only four rings at any given moment and cannot wear two of the same ring at the same time. While most can be discovered on corpses or in chests in the world, some require either the ranking processes in Covenants or quest-related occurrences to be maintained. Even others are simply gifted to the player via random NPCs for completing a specific task, so be cautious about how you interact with the world on your first run if you are attempting to acquire all rings.

Once they are all collected, including each Ring of Sacrifice, you will have earned the Master of Rings trophy/achievement and have proven yourself worthy of the title Lord of the Rings — at least in the context of Dark Souls 3.

It breaks when removed. I'm a quality build, going for about 40 DEX/40 END/40 STR. I prefer light armor so Havel's Ring is usually not a necessity. Will the RoFP be good until the end?

Go ahead. You can always get another one on playthrough 2, and another on playthrough 3, and another on...you get the point.

You can get 2 per playthrough.

One from killing Lautrec, either when he first appears or later if you chase him with the Black Orb in Anor Londo.

The 2nd can be obtained from trading the Xanthalous Crown (obtained in the Painted World) to the Crow in the Undead Asylum.

And yes, you should use it...though I caution putting it on too early; without a significant Vit and End (which you will eventually gain as you level up) its effect is minimal and other rings may be useful in the interim.

I put it on with VIT 21 and END 30. The 20% increase seems significant.

EDIT: I should add, the END boosts made the Sif fight a breeze. :)

Save it till Ornstein & Smough, you will need it then.

The honourable Incitatatus---
Mutly!, do somethiiiing!

Of course. Even if it was only half as effective it would still be by far the best ring in the game.

Have no fear, you can get two per playthroughs... I think it's the xanthous crown that you trade with snuggly to get your second... But it's arguably the most beneficial ring in the game, health stamina and equip burden increase? How can you go wrong... But again,.. Just google snuggly trade dark souls just to be sure which item to drop but I'm pretty sure it's the xanthous crown.

I prefer using the Wolf ring and DWGR on most of my characters. Swapping the DWGR for rusted iron ring, Covenant of Artorias or Bellowing Dragoncrest ring when needed.

Dark souls ring of protection

Dark Souls 3: The Best Rings In The Game

Gear is an important factor in any Dark Souls build. Players have hundreds of weapons, armor pieces, and rings to choose from. Even though the impact of armor and rings has been lessened in Dark Souls 3, they still have large impacts on the way a character behaves.

RELATED: 10 Dark Souls 3 Mods That Are Absolutely Hilarious

Rings grant passive bonuses such as increased Stamina regeneration or enhanced character stats. Some stronger rings come with negatives to help balance them, but not every ring in Dark Souls 3 is created equal. Some are vastly superior to others, either providing strong neutral game benefits or build-enabling buffs. Here are the seven best rings players can use in Dark Souls 3.

Updated April 30th, 2021 by Charles Burgar:It's no secret that Dark Souls 3 has some excellent rings for players to use. Some grant incredible bonuses that can define a build. Most of the best rings were already accounted for, so this list was updated to include more information on the rings themselves. The in-game description for each ring is now included under each entry, along with the exact stats each ring provides.

14 Best: Covetous Silver Serpent Ring

Covetous Silver Serpent Ring: Fallen foes yield 10-35% more souls.

Obtaining Souls is a core part of leveling up and upgrading gear in Dark Souls 3, which is why the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring is such a strong choice. While equipped, this ring will grant a 10% bonus to all Souls earned through kills.

This includes Souls dropped from bosses to make early game progress much faster. To obtain it, players need to run past an illusory wall at Firelink Shrine and open a hidden chest. A +3 version can also be found in The Dreg Heap that grants a massive 35% Soul yield bonus.

13

12 Best: Prisoner's Chain

Prisoner's Chain: Increases Vigor, Endurance, and Vitality by five points. Absorption rating is reduced slightly.

Depending on the player's Soul Level, the Prisoner's Chain ranges from top-tier to decent in strength. This ring increases a player's Vigor, Endurance, and Vitality by five while reducing all damage absorption stats by 4%. While that negative might sound horrible in PvE, that absorption detriment is negated by the increased Soul Level the ring provides.

Twink builds—characters that invade players at low Soul Level—will find this ring invaluable inside of PvP. Any challenge runs that limit themselves to a certain Soul Level in PvE will love this ring as well. With all of those positives in mind, the ring serves little purpose for players that don't abide by any Soul Level restrictions for phantom matchmaking.

11

10 Best: Sage Ring

Sage Ring: Shortens spell casting time by granting artificial Dexterity (+30-40).

Magic has received major changes in Dark Souls 3, the most notable of which is the return of FP. Players must spend the equivalent of mana to use spells instead of the charge-based system of the last two games.

RELATED: Dark Souls 3: All Minibosses & How To Defeat Them

This makes Attunement much more important than before. Sadly, that means there are fewer points to spec into Dexterity to make spells cast faster. That is where the Sage Ring comes in. This ring grants the equivalent of 30 Dexterity to a player's cast speed—bumped up to 40 Dexterity with the +2 variant. It's mandatory for any build that frequently cast spells and doesn't have a high Dexterity stat.

9

8 Best: Chloranthy Ring

Chloranthy Ring: Raises stamina recovery speed by +7-10 points per second.

Builds that rapidly consume stamina will want to consider using the Chloranthy Ring. The +3 variant grants an additional ten stamina regeneration per second. Since the base stamina regeneration rate in Dark Souls 3 is 45, gaining ten additional stamina regeneration is a dramatic boost. The Chloranthy Ring also stacks with the Grass Crest Shield and Green Blossoms. It also seems to reduce all stamina regeneration delay tied to rolling, sprinting, or attacking.

Stamina is key to staying alive in Dark Souls 3 due to the abundance of rapid attacks. Dodging between enemy attacks before retaliating will consume an immense amount of stamina from any build. Virtually every build that uses melee weapons can benefit from this ring, although characters that use heavy weapons with long stamina regeneration delays will benefit the most.

7

6 Best: Hornet Ring

Hornet Ring: Boosts critical attack damage by 30%.

If it wasn't for its inconsistent nature in PvE, the Hornet Ring would easily be the strongest ring in Dark Souls 3. This ring grants a massive 30% damage boost for critical hits with no drawbacks.

Players that frequent PvP either love or hate this ring for its dramatic effect on damage output. Characters that deal serious damage per hit can instantly kill invaders with a single critical hit using this ring. Unfortunately, it only affects targets that can be backstabbed in PvE. That effectively means that the Hornet Ring works on four of Dark Souls 3's bosses and a small subset of enemies. For PvP, this ring is a must.

5

4 Best: Carthus Bloodring

Carthus Bloodring: Boosts rolling invisibility frames from 13 to 17, at the cost of 30% reduced absorption.

There are three methods players can use to mitigate damage in the Souls series. Players can choose to block incoming damage at the cost of Stamina, roll out of the way of attacks at the cost of less Stamina, or parry the hit altogether for a big boost in damage. Since so few enemies in Dark Souls 3 can be parried, most players opt for rolling out of attacks instead.

Rolling comes with invulnerability frames or "I-frames" that allow players to aggressively roll into enemies. The Carthus Bloodring makes this easier to do, increasing the I-frames of fast and medium dodges from 13 to 17 frames. This is a dramatic boost, but it also causes players to take 30% more damage from hits. As long as a player is confident in their ability to dodge, the Carthus Bloodring makes PvE and PvP much easier and increases the likelihood they won't take damage from an attack.

3

2 Best: Ring Of Favor

Ring of Favor: Increases max HP by 3-6%, Stamina by 8.5-11.5%, and Equip Load by 5-8%.

Increasing Stamina with a ring is good enough, but the Ring of Favor does much more than that. This single ring grants increased HP, Stamina, and max Equip Load with no penalties.

It normally increases a player's health by 3%, Stamina by 8.5%, and Equip Load by 5%. However, the +2 variant raises this to 6% HP, 11.5% maximum Stamina, and 8% increased Equip Load. These bonuses are rather substantial and boost core stats, making this a fantastic choice for virtually every build in the game.
