Ever since we announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, nearly every fan I’ve heard from at trade shows, on Twitter, in the comments, or on the forums has asked one question: when is it coming to PS4? Well, we appreciate your patience, and today we have some good news for all of you: not only are we bringing The Pre-Sequel to PS4 on 27th March, but Borderlands 2 is coming along with it! Both titles will be available in one package as Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
The Handsome Collection has both games running in gorgeous HD and looking pretty damn great, at a resolution and performance level never before seen in Borderlands on consoles. Beyond that, The Handsome Collection also has another cool first for Borderlands: four-player split-screen! Yup, four friends can hang out on the couch and play in split-screen on a single TV with The Handsome Collection, in Borderlands 2 or The Pre-Sequel.

Back when Borderlands 2 came out in 2012, it launched alongside a pretty extravagant Collector’s Edition that some of you might have been able to snag. With Borderlands 2 and all of its add-on content coming to next-gen, we knew we had to top ourselves. And so, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will receive an extremely limited Collector’s Edition, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition!
Limited to only 5,000 units worldwide, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition includes a remote controlled Claptrap steward bot that you’ll control with a companion app from your iOS or Android device. You’ll be able to play voice samples of some of Claptrap’s most iconic lines and look through a camera to see where Claptrap is headed, all while you control his every move (while balancing on one wheel)!
The Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition also includes 12 really cool exclusive Vault Hunter lithographs, and a collectible steel case, it’ll be available for €349.95 at participating retailers and we recommend getting a move on it if you’re interested — we don’t expect these to last long.
Lastly, we’ll be talking more about The Handsome Collection during our panels at PAX South this week, and I hope we’ll see some of you in San Antonio. Even if you can’t make it, stay tuned for more details leading up to launch.
See you on Pandora and Elpis!
We’ve suspected it for a while, and now 2K and Gearbox Software have confirmed that Borderlands is coming to current gen. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will be full gathering together of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-sequel (not the first game, sadly), both remastered for current gen, along with all of the DLC available for the games, which is a massive amount of extra content, including highlights like Captain Scarlett and the Pirate’s Booty, and Tiny Tina’s Assault On Dragon Keep, just two of over 10 add-ons and challenge packs. This also includes upcoming season pass content for the Pre-Sequel.
Along with all of this comes a new, four-player split screen co-op mode, and the function to transfer your existing last gen save games to the new version.
If you’re very lucky (and have the cash), you may even be able to bag one of the limited Collector’s Editions, which includes a steel book case, 12 lithographs, and a fully functional remote control Claptrap, which even talks. Only 5,000 of these are being produced, and they’ll retail for around $400. They’ll be available to order worldwide.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will arrive on March 24 in the US, and March 27 internationally for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Before you start shooting and looting in the world of Pandora, here's what you need to know about Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
Say what you will about the general trend of remakes and remasters in the gaming sphere, but there were an awful lot of good games in the last console generation, and they look pretty snazzy in full HD.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection combines two fan-favorite titles into one convenient package, and adds a handful of useful new features. If you're debating whether to pick up The Handsome Collection, or have already done so and need a little guidance, look no further than this handy primer.
What Is Borderlands: The Handsome Collection?
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is a compilation of both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, now remastered for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. (The original Borderlands is not part of the package.) Previously, these games were available on the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PlayStation Vita (Borderlands 2 only). The Handsome Collection costs $60.
What Is Borderlands?
Borderlands is an incredibly popular series of cooperative games (up to four players at a time) that span multiple genres. They're sci-fi–themed first-person shooters, like Halo. They're sprawling action/role-playing games with lots of quests and character-building, like Mass Effect. They're frenzied online loot-fests, like Diablo. They have the anarchic humor of an old LucasArts adventure game, beautiful cartoonish graphics and tight, action-packed gameplay.
Borderlands is definitely not for everyone, but it's easy to see why the series has become a fan favorite in the six years since the first game came out.

Can You Play the Games Solo?
Sure. The games were designed with cooperative online play in mind, but the difficulty scales depending on how many players there are. You can play through the game by yourself without too much trouble, although some character classes are better suited to the task than others.
Why Re-Release Two Fairly New Games?
Borderlands, as a series, has a long shelf life, thanks to its exciting cooperative multiplayer, high level-caps, and high replayability with multiple character classes and builds. Fans still wanted to play Borderlands games, but didn't want to be tethered to their old systems. Developer Gearbox Software wanted to let fans keep playing, and if the company happened to pick up a few bucks in the process, surely, that wouldn't hurt, either.
What's New in The Handsome Collection?
Truth be told? Not much, but the additions are all welcome ones. The Handsome Collection includes every piece of downloadable content for both games, from postgame story missions to character-customization skins. You can also play cooperatively with four players on the very same screen (previously, only two players could do this).
Perhaps most importantly, The Handsome Collection runs at full 1080p and 60 frames per second, something the older consoles couldn't quite manage.

Why Is There No PC Version of The Handsome Collection?
Save for four-player local co-op (which PC players probably don't want anyway), PC gamers already had access to everything The Handsome Collection offers. Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel can already run at 1080p and 60 fps (and even higher) on PCs.
The only problem is that PC gamers don't get a price break; buying Borderlands 2, The Pre-Sequel and all associated DLC costs more than $100 on Steam right now. On the other hand, Steam holds sales on the titles frequently, and Gearbox may drop the price to be more competitive with its console brethren.
Can I Pick Up Where I Left Off on the Xbox 360/PS3/Vita?
Absolutely. The Handsome Collection makes use of cross-save functionality; you can continue your adventure, bringing all of your story progress, equipment and cash along for the ride.
Simply boot up the console where you started playing, choose Cross-Save and Upload Character. Then, load up The Handsome Collection, choose Cross-Save and Download Character. You'll be good to go.
There are two caveats: You can only transfer files within the same console families (you can’t Cross-Save between a PS3 and an Xbox One, for example), and if you transfer your Xbox 360 save to an Xbox One, there's no going back to the older hardware. PlayStation saves, on the other hand, can transfer among all three systems.
Do I Need to Play the First Borderlands?
The answer is a resounding "maybe." Borderlands actually has a fairly strong setting, cohesive narrative and interesting world, so if you’re on board for the much-better-than-it-has-to-be story, you should definitely play Borderlands before jumping into The Handsome Collection.
If you're just in it to shoot and loot, the opening cutscene of Borderlands 2 explains the story so far pretty well. Just keep in mind that Borderlands is not available on next-gen consoles, so you'll need an Xbox 360, PS3 or PC handy.

Where Does The Handsome Collection Fit Chronologically?
If you don’t mind copious amounts of spoilers, Gearbox has actually assembled an exhaustive timeline of where all the Borderlands games and DLC packs take place. Otherwise, the general progression is Borderlands — Borderlands 2 — Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel — Tales from the Borderlands (a point-and-click adventure game from Telltale Games, the company behind The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us).
Technically speaking, The Pre-Sequel takes place between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, but it's told in flashbacks; the framing story takes place after Borderlands 2's credits roll. Chew on that one for a while.
Why Should I Buy The Handsome Collection?
If you've played the first Borderlands, but never got around to the other two, you might as well get them at one lower price on a current-gen console. Even if you've already bought one of the games and some of the DLC, it might be cheaper to purchase The Handsome Collection than to buy the rest piecemeal. Similarly, if you're a Borderlands die-hard and intend to keep playing online, you could benefit from playing on the latest hardware with the best graphics and frame rate available on a console.
Why Shouldn't I Buy The Handsome Collection?
If you've already purchased Borderlands 2, The Pre-Sequel and all their DLC on a last-gen console, The Handsome Collection won't offer you much beyond a prettier face and enhanced local co-op. Similarly, if you just want to blow through the main games and don't care too much about DLC, it's considerably cheaper to buy the standalone last-gen games. Of course, if you've already played through Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel and feel as though you've had your fill, there's nothing in The Handsome Collection to pique your interest.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
2015 video game
2015 video game
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (released as Borderlands: The Legendary Collection on Nintendo Switch) is a compilation of first-person shooter video games developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. The Handsome Collection consists of both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, along with all of their accompanying downloadable content, enhanced local multiplayer, and the ability to transfer save data from their respective PlayStation 3 (Both Borderlands 2 & Pre-Sequel)/Vita/PSVR and Xbox 360 versions. A port to the Nintendo Switch entitled The Legendary Collection was released in North America on May 29, 2020, which additionally includes the first Borderlands. For The Handsome Collection, Borderlands 2 was ported by Iron Galaxy Studios and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel by Armature Studio. The Legendary Collection port was handled by Turn Me Up Games and Behaviour Interactive.
Development and release
To maintain consistency with the previous installments in the franchise, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel—a follow up set between the first two games in Gearbox Software's Borderlands franchise developed by 2K Australia, was only released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. In July 2014, prior to the game's release, 2K Australia's head Tony Lawrence reiterated that there was a possibility that The Pre-Sequel could be ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One—gauged by fan demand and sales.
In December 2014, it was reported that a game titled Borderlands Remastered Edition, which was presumed to be a Borderlands port to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, had received a rating from the Australian Classification Board. No other details had been announced at that point. The discovery drew comparisons to other "remastered" ports of recent previous generation games to the consoles, including Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, fellow Take-Two Interactive title Grand Theft Auto V, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
The compilation was announced on January 20, 2015, as The Handsome Collection, for a release in North America on March 24, 2015, and elsewhere on March 27, 2015. A limited "Claptrap-in-a-Box" edition was also announced; this US$399 bundle includes lithographs of the playable characters from both games, a Steelbook case for the game, and a remote-controlled version of the robot character Claptrap; it can be controlled from an Android or iOS device using the "ClaptrApp", features a single wheel and gyroscopic stabilization, can play Claptrap's in-game quotes, and has a camera in its eye that can be viewed from within the app. Only 5,000 copies of this edition were produced.
The compilation does not include the first Borderlands: speaking at PAX South, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford stated that they may consider creating a port of the original game if The Handsome Collection is "wildly successful".Borderlands received a separate remaster for PS4 and Xbox One (as well as an accompanying update to the PC version on Steam) in 2019.
On March 18, 2015, Gearbox Software and 2K Games confirmed that the game had been declared gold, indicating it was being prepared for duplication and release.
On March 26, 2020, Nintendo announced that a port of The Handsome Collection will be released along side Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition. It was released on May 29, 2020, both physically and digitally.
Both games in The Handsome Collection feature remastered graphics, and are capable of running at 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second when playing with one or two local players. The games are also capable of local split-screen multiplayer with up to four players, rather than the two-player limit of the previous-generation versions; four-player mode will reduce the frame rate to 30 frames per second. On April 3, 2019, a patch was released to add 4K support for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X.
Save data from the previous-generation versions of 2 or The Pre-Sequel (including characters and Badass Rank) can be migrated to The Handsome Collection from the PlayStation 3 (both games support Cross-Save, as in which the PS4 version can carry over to the previous-generation version) and Vita (Borderlands 2 only) versions to PlayStation 4, and the Xbox 360 version to Xbox One. Both games include all of their respective downloadable content—such as campaigns and additional playable characters. Claptastic Voyage—a campaign for The Pre-Sequel that was released on the same day as The Handsome Collection, is not included on-disc, but is a free download.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection received positive reviews from critics. Aggregating review websites Metacritic gave the PlayStation 4 version 82/100 based on 49 reviews.
IGN gave the compilation an 8.4 out of 10, praising the performance of its Borderlands 2 port for being "rock solid". Some issues were noted, including that the inventory menu in four-player mode was not scaled to fit the smaller amount of screen space, The Pre-Sequel had inconsistent frame rates, and users are unable to switch between the two games without rebooting it entirely, concluding that "Minor quibbles aside, The Handsome Collection is a great package for any console-bound Borderlands fan."GamesRadar was also positive, praising the extent of content available, but criticized minor framerate issues and that no significant new features were added.
