Change gta v install location

Change gta v install location DEFAULT

Welcome to the Modded GTAV Folder Changer!

This Script was made to quickly switch between the Modded and the Standalone GTA V.

This Folder can be located anywhere! You just need to configure some things! 😄

Get the Path of 1 Folder Before your GTA V Root.

For me it would be “E:\Rockstar Games\GTA V”.

Now Open “Modded_GTAV_Folder_Changer.ps1” with your favourite editor like Notepad++.
and paste the Path you just copied between the “ “, as marked below.

Now you will need to rename your “Grand Theft Auto V” folders.

If you do it like me youll have 2 separate folders, one is the standalone GTA V and one is the Modded GTA V.

Name the Modded GTA V Folder: “Grand Theft Auto V – Modded”. You don’t need to rename the Standalone Version.

Do it like shown below:

If you now Start “Change_GTAV_Version.bat”, it will switch your GTA V Version to the Modded Version.

The Folders will automatically be renamed like shown belown:

You will get a little CMD window which tells you that the Version has been changed:

If you Start “Change_GTAV_Version.bat” again, it will switch your GTA V Version to the Standalone Version and so on.

You will get a little CMD window which tells you that the Version has been changed:

If you have any further questions please let me know. Ill be happy to answer them to you 🙂

The location for your saved game folder depends on your version of Windows.

Where are saved games located?

GTA 5 save games can be found here:

  • C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\Documents\My Games

  • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\Profiles

Note: When it’s running, ALT+TAB and open task manager and go to Details, right click on the exe and “show folder location”.

Note: Sometimes you need to show hidden folders in Windows. To do that;

  • Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
  • Select View > Options > Change folder and search options.
  • Select the View tab and in Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives and OK.

It’s end. I hope “GTA 5 Save Game Location” helps you. Feel free to contribute the topic. If you have also comments or suggestions, comment us.

SOLVED: GTA 5 Save Game Files and Scripts/Mods Folder

Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA V) is the fifth installment in the GTA series and was finally released on 17th September 2013 after fans had a 5 year wait following its predecessor GTA IV in 2008. Run on Rage engine, the game was developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games.

The game, which sets itself in the action-adventure genre, features both first-person and third-person perspective gameplay and offers multi-player interaction. Players are able to control of/ switch between three criminal characters following a bank robbery that has gone wrong, to complete missions and fight rivals, in an open world format set in San Andreas.

GTA V has received exceptional ratings, which is no surprise following the success of the other installments in the series, with a score of 5/5 on GamesRadar and 9/10 on GameSpot. Those wanting to experience the game themselves can currently play it on a number of platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.

Change Epic Games Install Location

As previously stated, the default install location of Epic games is C drive. If you have not customized the install location, you may face a big headache that is C is running out of space. In this case, moving the Epic games to another drive could be helpful. But how to move Epic games to another drive? There are three tricks. Pick one you prefer.

Way 1: Change Epic Game Install Location Using Epic Games Launcher

You can utilize Epic Game Launcher to move Epic games to another location. The detailed steps are:

Step 1: Copy the game folder under the Epic game install location on your computer and then paste it to the folder of another drive like D:\Epic Games.

Step 2: Rename the folder in the new location to “*-temp” (* refers to the game name).

rename the game folder in the new location

Step 3: Go to Epic Games Launcher to uninstall the game in the original location.

  1. Switch to the Library tab on the interface of Epic Games Launcher.
  2. Locate the game and then click the Settings gear on the game thumbnail.
  3. Click the Uninstall option.
uninstall the game

Step 4: Install the game again. Here you do not need to finish the whole downloading.

  1. Switch to the Library tab.
  2. Locate the game and then click the INSTALL button associated with the game.

Step 5: Click the Browse button and choose the new location (the same as the location mentioned in Step 1) to save the game when you are asked to choose the install location.

Step 6: When the installing process goes on 1% or more, please cancel the process and then close Epic Games Launcher.

Step 7: Delete the game folder in the original location. Next, go to the new location and rename the “*-temp” to “*” (* refers to the game name).

Step 8: Open Epic Games Launcher again and resume the installation process.

Step 9: Once the files are verified and the installation process ends, you should be able to launch the game.

Way 2: Change Epic Game Install Location by Modifying Manifest Files

Epic Games Launcher stores important game information including installation location in manifest files and the typical paths are:

  • C:\ProgramData\Epic\EpicGamesLauncher\Data\Manifests
  • C:\ProgramData\Epic\UnrealEngineLauncher

So, you can try modifying the values in the two files to change the Epic games install location.

Here is the guide.

Step 1: Move the game folder from the original location to another drive.

Step 2: Find the .item file for the game you want to move by going forward the path C:\ProgramData\Epic\EpicGamesLauncher\Data\Manifests. Once you find the file, open it with Notepad or other file editors.

Step 3: Modify the values related to ManifestLocation, InstallLocation, and StangingLocation to point to the folder in the new drive. Next, save the file.

Step 4: Edit C:\ProgramData\Epic\UnrealEngineLauncher\LauncherInstalled.dat. You should change the InstallLocation value to point to the game folder in another drive. After editing, do not forget to save the file.

Now, the game should be moved to another drive successfully. You can launch Epic Games Launcher to play this game.

Way 3: Change Epic Games Install Location via Command Prompt

You can create a symbolic link using Command Prompt to move Epic games from one drive to another.

Step 1: Close Epic Games Launcher and games that are running.

Step 2: Move the game folder to another folder.

Step 3: Run Command Prompt as administrator.

  1. Type Command Prompt inside the Windows search bar.
  2. Right-click the search result and then choose Run as administrator.

Step 4: Type the command mklink /D “#” “*” in Command Prompt and hit the Enter key.

Note: # refers to the original location like C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Fortnite, while * refers to the new location like D:\Epic Games\Fortnite.

run the command in Command Prompt

Command Prompt will create a symbolic link to the new location. Once successful, it will show a message like: symbolic link created for C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Fortnite <<===>> D:\Epic Games\Fortnite. Then, you can open Epic Games Launcher to play the game.

Share GTA V Game Files Between Steam and Epic Games

After Epic Games announced that it would give away free copies of GTA V for a week, many people started to claim this gift on that game platform. Even some existing GTA V players who have already purchased the game on Steam had decided to get another free copy so they could have two or more GTA Online accounts.

It appears that if you have already installed GTA V via Steam, you still need to download a full copy of the game files via Epic Games. However, by doing some tricks, you can let Steam and Epic Games share the same set of GTA V game files to avoid downloading the game again and thus save disk space. We will use the command on Windows, which is not well-known, to create a link to the existing game files. The link works as if the linked files and folders are exactly there, but it occupies very little space.

Because I believe almost all people who want to let the apps of these two game platforms share the same game files have already downloaded GTA V from Steam rather than Epic Games, the following instructions will create a link to Steam’s copy of GTA V files under Epic Games’ installation path.

  1. Download GTA V in Epic Games.

You will be prompted to choose an installation path. Select whichever path you want to use, and remember it.

  2. Then, immediately pause download.

  3. Quit Epic Games Launcher. Ignore the warning about cancelling installation.

  4. Go to the GTA V installation path set in step 1, and move the folder to somewhere else. In this demo, I moved it to the parent folder.

  5. Then, delete the folder.

  6. Find out where Steam stored GTA V game files. Open up game properties for GTA V in Steam, click on “Browse Local Files” under the “Local Files” tab, and remember the path shown in the file explorer. You may click on the address bar to copy the full path.

  7. Copy and in Steam’s GTA V installation to somewhere else, and clearly label them as game files downloaded from Steam. For example, I would put those files in a folder with name .

  8. Start command prompt as administrator.

  9. Run command to create a link to Steam’s game files for Epic Games. Fill in the paths with values you got in step 1 and step 6 respectively. Remember to wrap the values in double quotes.

After running the command, you should see the link created in Epic Games’ game installation path.

  10. Move the folder in step 4 back into .

  11. Start Epic Games Launcher. If the download progress is paused, resume it manually. Then, you should see it verifying files for GTA V, which indicates success! Wait until it completes.

  12. Once GTA V is ready to play from Epic Games, visit the folder storing GTA V game files again, copy and similarly as in step 7, but label them as game files downloaded from Epic Games this time.

In the future, if you want to launch GTA V via Steam, make sure the executables you copied in step 7, which are the ones you labeled Steam, are in the GTA V game files folder. If you want to launch it via Epic Games, then you should put the files copied in step 12, labeled Epic Games by you, back to the game files folder. These two files, and , are the only two critical files that differ between the copies of GTA V downloaded from Steam and Epic Games.

Sign Out Your Old Social Club Account!

I’ve heard from some people who have been already playing this game using the copy downloaded from Steam saying that, when they launched GTA V through Epic Games Launcher, the new copy of the game was activated for their original Social Club account, so they failed to make a brand new account for GTA Online. If you want to have a new Social Club account and activate the copy of GTA V you obtained on Epic Games for it, make sure you sign out your old Social Club account from Rockstar Games Launcher.

Steps to Do Upon Game Update

If an update for GTA V is available after you have used the above steps to share the game files, then please perform the following steps for the new update:

  1. Update GTA V from one game platform (either Steam or Epic Games). We will denote this platform as Platform A.

  2. Copy and under the game’s installation path to somewhere else, and clearly label them as game files downloaded from Platform A.

  3. Next, update GTA V from the other platform, which will be denoted as Platform B.

  4. Again, copy and under the game’s installation path to somewhere else, but label them as game files downloaded from Platform B this time.

Now, you should be able to launch GTA V and switch between Steam and Epic Games back and forth again as before.

How to change INSTALLATION location of GTA 5 in EPIC GAME LAUNCHER (Hindi)

Last week I installed a brand new Windows 10. Not an upgrade of a previous 8 or 7. So I lost all my programs. While most of other games run out of the box even if not re-installed (steam games,‘s etc), my 61 GB Grand Theft Auto V did not run anymore when clicked.

moving gta5 on a new windows how to

But I really hoped to run it without re-installing it from scratch. Too big.

So this is how I fixed it. Using Regedit and just moving some files. Hope this can help someone else as well.

Boot and stay in windows 10. All these steps are done on windows 10 (the destination system) side. We assume your windows 7 GTA is/was up and running when on windows 7. I see my old windows with letter E:/ now.

And the new windows 10 is on letter C:\ of course.

First, take note where your Game is on now; in my case I installed it on an external hard drive which is now seen as letter D:\ so that I have D:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V (the 61GB size folder).

There are 2 programs to fix, the game and the “social club” program. Both need to be fixed to run GTA V.

LET’S START – First, let’s fix the Social Club things.

Remember the letters as seen from the new Windows: old windows E:, new windows C:, game is on D:

1. From the old windows, copy the E:\Program Files\Rockerstar Games\Social Club folder to C:\ so to get the copy in C:\Program Files\Rockerstar Games\Social Club; each time give permission to read if asked. Create the \Rockstar Games\ folder too.

In order to avoid losing the game progress, let’s copy the User’s profile too. This is under the old Windows’ document folder.

2. From the old windows, go into your C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\ folder, then open Documents\, look for the Rockstar Games folder and copy it to the same position on C:\ This will preserve old games and profile unless you do want to start a new brand game.

3. Now run regedit.exe. Type it into the search windows input box and execute it. We need to create the missing keys for the game. Do the following steps.

On the left side of regedit window, look for and Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then open SOFTWARE then scroll down and open Wow6432Node, then scroll down to the R letter. Since it’s a new Windows installation, wedo not find any Rockstar Games entry and this is normal. See the following screenshot. CLICK TO ZOOM.

HKEY SOFTWARE Wow6432Node windows 10 gta v

4. We need to create the missing entries under Wow6432Node. So select Wow6432Node, right click on it, select NEW and select KEY from the submenu to create a new KEY called exactly (case sensitive) Rockstar Games. (check screenshots). At the end of the list your new entry will appear.

5. Select your new just added entry, right click to add a new KEY (as a son of this entry) and call it Grand Theft Auto V so that you finish to have:

Rockstar Games└ Grand Theft Auto V

6. UNDER Grand Theft Auto V (as a son of its, so right click on it, do new and select key), add another new KEY called exactly “1.00.0000”, be sure to  include the quotes, they are part of the key name!

7. In the same way as we did at point 5, under Rockstar Games, ADD a new KEY called Rockstar Games Social Club

This makes the left side structure of Regedit looks like:

These entries will tell the game that it is installed and it exists somehow. Now we need to populate these entries with data values so that the game finds itself.

8. Click to select Grand Theft Auto V. On the right side of Regedit we can see the name <-> value relationships. There is only one when we created it and we are not touching that at all. We just add new entries.

9. It’s easier first to ADD all new KEY names, then editing them one by one to set the values we want in them. Right click on the right side to ADD these new NAME. Some have spaces in it, other don’t. Be sure to do exactly as written here.

Game Type

Game Version

10. Once all these names are added under Grand Theft Auto V right side panel of regedit, click on each of them and EDIT the current undefined value and set the following ones.

Game Type, type Full

Game Version type “1.00.0000”

InstallFolder, copy and paste the pathname you currently have for the 61GB game folder as seen under the new Windows, my case is D:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V

Language type it-IT – if you installed an italian version (I did) or en-US for ENG.

PatchVersion type 1.0.393.4 – note on August 15 my game was up to date to the latest available patch.

You must obtain the following result.

grand theft auto v regedit entries

11. Now click and select Rockstar Games Social Club

12. Add the following names.

13. Click and edit the values with.

InstallFolder copy and paste the C:\ pathname, that is C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Social Club

InstallLang type 1040 for italian or 1033 for english

Version type

You must obtain the following result:

rockstar social club regedit

When you do things in Regedit, they are saved automatically in Windows, so we’re done now and we can close Regedit.

Have you Social Club user and password on hand since you’ll be now asked to enter them again in the GTA V Launcher, but the game will now work again as before.

14. Head to D:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V\ folder and locate GTA LAUNCHER and double click it to run the game. We can also create a shortcut to it on the desktop since we don’t have any icon of the game in the Start Menu.

Hope this post can help someone like me.
